Reading Notes: Part B

When I was younger, I used to have some of these children's books that were a set of 21. In book 5, I think, it was a book with a bunch of stories. I remember reading about the monkey and the crocodile so when I read this story it gave me nostalgia. I loved that story growing up so it's great that I can write a story about something I grew up reading. I liked that the monkey was clever enough to get himself out of a situation but its amazing how dumb the crocodile is. Maybe if I decided to write about this story I would make the crocodile smarter or even outwit the monkey?

The other story that I really liked is The Crocodile in the River. The monkey has an eye for detail since he can tell that there is something different about that rock. Not only that but he has enough wit to call out to the crocodile and get him to reveal himself. It amazes me how relentless the crocodile is about getting the monkey's heart. Again, crocodile is dumb for thinking rock speak but then again animals are speaking so maybe it could be possible? Maybe if I did this story I could add a talking rock.

Time Strategies

Time management is not a natural skill I have. This semester my days are fully booked. I have so much to do with classes and work, plus I HAVE to go to the gym to de-stress from the craziness of the day. This first week was super hard to navigate my schedule because of getting used to everything. One of the tips that I used off the list is that of`bookmarking the weekly calendar. I also keep a planner. In my planner I put literally everything. My class and work schedule, my due dates, when I'll be going out of town, everything. I've had to plan my day ahead of time and meal prep because I literally do not have time to stop and cook before work. I found out that the Huff is not that busy after 8:30 so I go home and work on homework and eat for a few hours until then and I head to the gym. It's a hard process if you're not used to being on a tight schedule but it works if you stick to it.

Technology Tools and Course Websites

I've some of the tech tools listed, like the bookmarking. I said in a previous post that I am horrible at remember things and remembering where to access specific websites is no exception. I use this for this class and others. I even set my chrome to open canvas as soon as I open a window so that I can always remember to look at my assignments. The most important page to bookmark would be the class assignments page. There, it has the whole week in there and links to the instructions on how to do a post.

Class Assignments

So just in case I haven't mentioned before, I have taken Mythology and Folklore before and enjoyed it so much that I signed up for Indian Epics. The set up it pretty much the same which is awesome because if something ain't broke, don't fix it. I would say that the assignments that I really look forward to doing is the reading. I am a hug nerd for any story, especially different versions of my favorites. I would say that writing my own version of these stories is the next best thing. It lets me be apart of the story and put my own mark on it. I also like that there are extra credit posts we can do because sometimes I can completely blank on assignments. I literally HAVE to have a planner and write everything down just to remember things. I am super excited to get started!

Introduction!

My Cousin (right) and I (Left)

Hey y'all! My name is Miriam but my friends call me Mimi. Feel free to call me whichever! If you are wondering about my blog title, Rebel Pomegranate, it's the meaning of my first and last name. Miriam means bitter and rebellious and my last name, Granados, means pomegranate or pomegranate picker. I'm from Dallas. I am a senior and a psych and pre-occupational therapy major. I think the coolest thing about my pre-OT major is that I got to dissect a cadaver, which was slightly unnerving but you get used to it. My favorite class last semester was Cognition which involved neuropsychology so it had to do with different parts of the brain along with their functions. Since I am from Dallas, I am a huge Cowboys and Texas Rangers fan.

I am also a proud mommy of my German Shepard mix, Deuce! He turned ten years old this past March and I threw him a birthday with his dog cousins. I literally spoil him so much. My apartment doesn't allow big dogs so I always get really upset when I have to leave him with my parents.

I absolutely love to read. One summer I read almost 100 books. I L-O-V-E binge watching shows, Netflix and Hulu are life. My friends and I watched the whole first season of American Horror story in one day. I also Snapchat so much. It's how I tend to say in touch with friends and family back home. I also really love to travel. I've been to a few countries and I went to Cancun this past summer and a few road trips around Texas. I prefer road trips rather than plane rides. I enjoy being in the city but I love hiking and being in nature. I also enjoy playing sand volleyball. I used to play volleyball in middle and high school and I couldn't get enough of it. I am not a big fan of sweets but I am such a carnivore. I can't live without my beef.

Growth Mindset

Growth Mindset
I have heard of Carol Dweck and the growth mindset before from taking Mythology and folklore last semester. She says some things about having a fixed mindset that I learned in my social psych class. She said that some students say that will cheat the next time they failed or look for someone who is worse off than they are. This is called a downward comparison. We do this as a defense mechanism when we are feeling bad about ourselves. I think that having a growth mindset is super helpful by a psychological standpoint because it not only helps you see the situation and your abilities realistically, but it also positively motivates you to not give up and try harder, or take another approach to tackle an obstacle if one isn't working.

My Favorite Place...Cancun

Moon Palace Resort
My favorite place has to be Cancun! I've been to a few countries but this beach has always been my favorite. It holds lots of great memories and I got to reminisce those memories again this past summer. My first visit to Cancun, my whole family decided to go to the Moon Palace together. I was about 16 years old with my two cousins and on our last night there, we ordered everything on the late night room service menu.

I've always been a huge beach bum and I tend to spend most of my time sun bathing on the beach. Its always such a relaxing trip when we come here.
